about coaching
"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom."
--Victor Frankl

Is coaching the same as therapy or counseling?
Coaching is not the same as therapy and both can work hand in hand to create the strongest possible foundation for your life. Therapy's focus begins in your life today and moves backwards through time to heal, understand and " have closure" on troubling events, attitudes or behaviors in the past. Although your coach will have an understanding of how your past has informed your life, coaching begins with your life today and moves forward, claiming the strengths, gifts , and insight you already possess, developing new abilities and greater accomplishment. Coaching supports you in letting go of old ideas and habits that are holding you back from experiencing the freedom and power you want in your life. Therapy is about healing the past; coaching is about creating a great life now- in the present. Therapy is about moving from dysfunctional to functional; coaching is about moving from functional to extraordinary!

How does coaching work?
Coaching is conducted on a weekly basis--the first three weeks of each month by telephone. Together, we schedule regular appointments to suit your schedule. You choose what you want to work on each week (see forms) and you decide how much or how little work you do in between sessions. As your coach, Elizabeth will make requests and challenges to help you to reach your goals. E-mail support is always available to you in between sessions.

How do I choose a life coach?
Until you have worked with a coach, you won’t know whether you are suited to work with each other. The coaching relationship is unique and it is important that you and your coach ‘connect.' The best way to find out if you are suited to a particular coach is to have a trial session before making the commitment.

Elizabeth offers a free thirty-minute trial session with no obligation to continue. It is then entirely up to you to choose if you want to book ongoing sessions. For a free thirty minute consultation, please contact Elizabeth.

Is coaching expensive?
Coaching packages can be structured to suit individual budget constraints. Elizabeth is committed to making coaching available to anyone who wants to be coached and will negotiate rates when necessary.

How long do people generally continue with coaching?
Three months is the minimum term giving you time to design the partnership, experience the results of coaching, and begin to make changes in your life. Most clients will then continue for a year or longer. It is an individual choice and each client will make the choice that is right for them.

What can I expect of the coaching process?
Coaching will provide you with a supportive and non-judgmental space for you to envision and speak your goals and work out how to achieve them. You won’t be advised to act in a specific way, all the choices are yours, but you will be asked powerful and penetrating questions to encourage you to think differently, consider alternative perspectives, and to open up new opportunities.
